One of the most weirdest accounts took place in and around The Foe Room. Residents returning to their room, were somewhat surprised when they were unable to gain access. Although the door could be unlocked, it could only be opened a fraction. Staff were called but they too failed to budge the door.

The Inn was used as a temperance house during the early 1900’s but there has always been some kind of unexplained presence throughout the years. The castle was erected as a 12th-century manor house and fortified in 1377, giving it a rhomboid shaped stonework enclosure with high curtain walls, internal towers in each corner, a hall and a gateway. It was used as a fortress by the bishops of Chichester.

The attic of this house is said to be haunted by the spirit of a young woman who committed suicide there. She threw herself from the top floor windows after abuse from her uncle. Her spirit is said to be capable of frightening people to death by taking the form of a brown mist.
